Our day out trip of the month: PARK SERINYA OF THE PREHISTORIC CAVES
Park Serinyà of the Prehistoric Caves is a unique approach of the human being when they lived as hunter-gatherers in the prehistory. The park has several shelters or open caves in a slope of travertine rock.
This park is the best site to learn about the transition from Neanderthal man to modern man in Western Europe. The first archaeological excavations began in 1943 by Dr. Josep Maria Corominas. Currently the excavations are carried out by the University of Gerona and the Archaeology Museum of Catalonia-Gerona.
It is advisable to complete this tour with the Regional Archaeological Museum in Banyoles, where you can see good examples of objects from the prehistoric caves Serinyà.
