St Jordi’s day is also called “El Día de los Amantes,” which means Lovers Day and sometimes called “El día de la Rosa,” which means the Rose Day. The tradition says that men give a rose to the women they love – it can be the mother, sister, wife, daughter, lover or even a work colleague, and women give a book to the men they love. St. Jordi day is not a public holiday in Barcelona, so shops are open as usual, and you will see lots of little stands on the street selling roses and books all over the city.
