 We would like to explain some Catalan traditions and attractions that you can enjoy during that season:


The nativity scene in Plaça Sant Jaume

pessebre2016Quim Domene and Toti Toronell will be performing daily poetry verses in which the poet J.V.Foix describes various scenes of an everyday Christmas, placing the emphasis on the iconic universe of Christmas popular culture characters. The two artists will be offering an up-to-date vision of the magic provided by Catalan poetry and traditions.

The city thus pays tribute to the important Barcelona poet on the 30th anniversary of his death, which will be commemorated in January.

From 25 November to 8 January from 10 to 24 h.


Discover the folklore of Barcelona!

entremesosLa Casa dels Entremesos is an active centre for promoting folklore in Barcelona. Besides producing and co-producing festivities, traditional events, meetings and demonstrations around the city, the centre also organises exhibitions, talks, debates and workshops at the site itself.

The building also houses a permanent exhibition devoted to Barcelona’s festive imagery. The show features around fifty figures, including giants, dwarfs, “big-heads”, bestiary and puppets.

Timetable: From Tuesday to Saturday: 10:00h to 13:00 and 16:00h to 19:00h. Free entrance.

The Three Kings’ toy factory

fabricareisWe’re at the Three Kings’ toy factory for Christmas as it opens up for visitors to see part of it, as long as they don’t interfere with the work being done there or course. This year you’ll find some elves who get in through a big secret door.

You can make the most of the occasion to visit the magic post office, where the friendly elves who work there will welcome any children wanting to deliver their letter to the Three Kings. A group of monitors will be receiving families, collecting their letters and helping them deliver them to a huge mailbox.

Visitors will also be able to attend a big light festival through the factory windows. Finally, there will also be a chance to see the toy warehouse, where presents are kept until the night of 5 January.

The Three Kings Parade

kingsparadeLike every year, the Three Kings will arrive in Barcelona accompanied by their traditional entourage of magical creatures, spectacular carriages and mountains of sweets for all those who decide to stop off at some of the points along the route to see the faces of Their Majesties up close. The more daring can hand in their letters directly to one of the 80 postmen and post women travelling with the Magi.

Come and watch the Kings ride their new carriages! They’ll take you with them to their countries of origin. You’ll be amazed by the tranquil gardens of King Melchior, the enchanted forest of King Caspar and the African savannahs of King Balthasar.

In keeping with tradition, the parade celebrating the eve of the Epiphany will start from the Moll de la Fusta quay at 16.30. The Three Kings of the Orient will arrive at the schooner Santa Eulàlia accompanied by all their helpers. The parade will set off after the traditional ceremony welcoming Their Majesties, the Illustrious Kings of the Orient, and it will then pass through several of the city’s streets from 18.00 until about 21.00.

Where: The Parade starts from Av. del Marquès de l’Argentera at 18.00. The Three Kings and their retinue will then make their way through Pla de Palau, Pg. Isabel II, Via Laietana, Pl. Urquinaona, Fontanella, Pl. Catalunya, Pelai, Pl. Universitat, Rda. Sant Antoni, Sepúlveda, Av. Paral·lel, Av. Reina Maria Cristina and Av. Rius i Taulet

Timetable: From 18.00h on.


New Year’s Ringing Bells

For those who are going to stay in Barcelona The countdown to the New Years signalled by 12 chimes will become an impressive light, water, fireworks and music show along Av. Maria Cristina.

Av. Maria Cristina, with the Palau Nacional in the background, will once again be the perfect setting for the New Year’s Eve party in Barcelona.

campanades-2017Fireworks designed by Pirotècnia Igual, our prestigious home-grown international company, will combine with a musical accompaniment and the water display at the Magic Fountain to turn the show into a unique and special experience.

Don’t stay at home, come along with your grapes and bring your friends and family to see in 2017 and enjoy a big fireworks, music, light and water show. The show will start at 11.30 pm and continue until roughly 12.10.

The metro service will run non-stop throughout the night on New Year’s Eve.

New Year’s Eve at the Magic Fountain

The Magic Fountain will play an important part in the New Year’s Eve celebrations. It will be offering an innovative show that includes fire interacting with the water, sound and light.

However, for the entertainment of people waiting for midnight, there will be review of previous music and colour shows, starting at 9:30 pm.
